Burg Namedy

11th September (part 3)

The evening was spent docked in Andernach and we left the ship to visit Burg (castle) Namedy for dinner. The castles's history stretches back to the 14th century; it was built by the Hausmann Knights of Andernach. The castle has been added to many times over the year and the date of each building addition is written in large numbers on the outside walls.

In 1907 , the castle was bought by Prince Carl-Anton Von Hohenzollern and his wife, and it is still lived in by the family. We were greeted by Princess Heide Von Hohenzollern who graciously told us to consider the castle as our home whilst we were there and visit the rooms and grounds before dinner. The entertainment was by a brilliant 22 year old Chinese / German concert pianist who spoke fluent English. His 14 year old sister is also a gifted musician and is part of the castle arts program too.

The three dates from left to right are 1395,
1701 and 1706.

The hunting room from the library mezzanine level.

A bedroom, of course.

A little nook on the stairway landing.

Marble fireplace.

Peter in the love seat. I have no selfie pole so I couldn't join him for the photo!
